2009 Call for Annual Meeting

I, Tracey Linkous, Chairman of the Charlottesville Business Innovation Council (CBIC), call for the Annual Meeting of the organization to be held on Tuesday, June 30th, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. at CitySpace (100 5th Street NE, on the Downtown Mall) in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The purpose of the Annual Meeting is for members of the Council to:

  • elect a Board of Directors for the 2009-10 Council year;
  • receive the Chairman’s report on the State of the Council as required by the Bylaws;
  • transact any other business that may properly come before the Annual Meeting.

All members of the Council are encouraged to attend. Advanced registration is required online at www.eventbrite.com/event/350267660 ; this event is free and attendees are invited to enjoy hors d’oeuvres and drinks during the networking reception that follows the Annual Meeting.

According to Article I of the CBIC Bylaws, "any organization (including any sole proprietorship) or individual that is supportive of the Corporation's purposes shall be eligible to be a member of the Corporation. Each member shall be entitled to one vote for each director or officer position to be elected and one vote on each other matter which by statute requires a vote of the members with voting rights including the amendment of the Articles of Incorporation and the Bylaws of the Corporation.”

The proposed slate of candidates appears below and the Nominating Committee will present this slate of candidates to the Meeting; nominations from the floor will then be in order. Nominations made by the Nominating Committee shall not require a second. Election of the Board of Directors and Officers shall be by secret ballot, unless the report of the Nominating Committee is accepted without additional nominations. In that case, a viva voce election (voice vote) shall be in order.

The Meeting shall be conducted in accordance with the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws of the Council as well as the Laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Rules contained in the current edition of Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised, shall govern the meeting in all cases in which they are applicable.

The University of Virginia’s T100 Alumni Mentoring Program

The T100 Alumni Mentoring Program offers U.Va alumni the opportunity to guide start-up companies that have research origins at the University. T100 members provide hands-on mentoring and financial contributions to support companies as they evolve from concept to commercial enterprise. Mentors participate in a monthly conference call to help their team advance the commercial promise of the technology. U.Va.-related start-up companies and University alumni are invited to join the T100 Alumni Mentoring Program. Interested alumni are encouraged to inquire about mentorship opportunities and faculty start-ups should inquire about application procedures. CBIC and Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce Announce Affiliation

Business, Entrepreneurial, and High-Tech Community to Benefit

(Charlottesville, Virginia – October 9) The Charlottesville Business Innovation Council (CBIC) and the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce (the Chamber) today announced that their respective organizations have signed an agreement to jointly support the entrepreneurial and high-tech business community in an innovative affiliation. Chiefly, this agreement provides for the following advantages:

  • CBIC will retain its independent, separate organizational status with independent governance in affiliated membership with, and under operational management by the Chamber;
  • CBIC member companies with 10 or fewer employees in good standing will become CBIC Chamber Affiliate Members receiving access to Chamber member benefits;
  • All Chamber member enterprises in good standing will have equal access to all CBIC events, activities and member services on a member basis; and,
  • The Chamber will provide operational management and administrative support to CBIC on a fee-for-service basis, enabling CBIC to transition more easily to an all-volunteer directed organization.
