GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for managing the life cycle of reporting systems including defining requirements, data modeling, functional database monitoring and optimization, creating reports, data analysis and user training. Manages systems and develops policies and procedures in regards to security, user access, data governance and general development. Creates reports and analyses utilizing multiple UPG data sources and systems for Organizational and inter-departmental reporting. Supports team members and ensures that established deadlines and client needs are met. Keeps management well informed of area activities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions of the Job:
 Interacts with business users across functional areas to review, analyze and evaluate business and user needs, and defines and documents requirements accordingly. Advises on the creation of new processes and systems based on needs of the organization.
 Develops, implements, and maintains logical and physical data models.
 Develops, maintains, enhances and optimizes databases, reporting applications, and analytical tools in support of business needs for UPG and across the UVA Health System as required.
 In collaboration with business users, constructs data sets on an ad-hoc or routine basis for advanced data analysis or data mining for use with statistical or other analytical software packages. Creates complex queries, reports and analyses from single or disparate data sources for business analysis, process improvement, trends analysis or predictive analytics. Scope of reports and analyses may include multiple/all UPG or Clinical departments and may require consolidating data across multiple systems including UPG financial, billing and reimbursement, clinical, HR, or telephony data.
 Provides training and documentation to end-users
 Serves, manages and supports internal and external customers of supported systems.
 Understands and supports related databases, providing overall maintenance and troubleshooting of logical database issues including monitoring application and SQL processes, database and application level errors and query and database optimization.
 Develops, implements and maintains ETL processes as required for applications.
 Assist less senior analysts, support staff, and customers with troubleshooting and problem resolution.
 Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and corrects a variety of application, interface or database issues, and coordinates with internal and external technical support to resolve them.
 Ensures data and system integrity, accuracy and privacy in all systems and procedures, defines validation checks, defines and creates data load processes and procedures, and produces documentation as necessary.
 Leads initiatives where appropriate and participates as a team member on projects.
 Acts as an internal consultant. Assists in the evaluation of new systems, interfaces, or enhancements and the impact of changes on users and workflow as appropriate.
 Maintains and enhances database interfaces with multiple source systems.
 Provides on-call technical support as determined by manager. To provide best customer service levels, it may be necessary to work outside normal business hours and to work more than the scheduled number of hours.
 Participates in IT change management process.
 Other projects and tasks as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
Education:
 Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. Master’s degree preferred. Microsoft SQL Server (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS), Project Management and/or Six Sigma certifications preferred.
Experience:
 Three years of system implementation and administration experience required.
 Experience in using or maintaining automated financial systems.
 Experience maintaining relational databases.
 Proficiency in design and programming of customized report definitions preferred.
 Experience with SQL Server (2008 or above) and/or Windows Server 2008 a plus.
 Experience with Transact-SQL or other open-system database query language preferred.
 Financial accounting, payroll, or Human Resources IT systems experience preferred.
 Oracle, Hyperion, Clarity and/or Cognos experience preferred.
Knowledge and skills:
 Web server administration experience a plus.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have any positions reporting to it; however, the incumbent may lead teams or projects.
