Web Developer: Overall objective:  

To perform front and back-end development of complex, custom-coded, content managed websites. 

Technical knowledge and skills

  • PHP (primarily procedural; however, object-oriented experience preferred)
  • PERL, Python, Ruby on Rails, or other language a plus
  • JQuery JavaScript library
  • MySQL database creation, querying, and management
  • WordPress customization---at the code level
  • Standards-based HTML production plus experience with HTML5
  • W3C CSS plus familiarity with CSS3
  • Responsive web development techniques
  • Cross-browser compatibility
  • Apache web hosting on a Linux operation system (LAMP stack: Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP)
  • General Windows networking knowledge

Expectations

  • Experience within a small team environment where interpersonal communication is ongoing, proactive, and collaborative (ex., status updates to project manager)
  • In addition to core programming duties, comfortable “wearing many hats” (ex., write user documentation; research/present possible technical solutions; perform thorough testing)
  • Discern and test all use cases/requirements during the development process
  • Follow the company’s established procedures for all aspects of development
  • Clearly and concisely communicate technical issues in “layman’s terms” to clients and non-technical colleagues
  • Skilled at effective time management across multiple projects and priorities
  • Appreciation of and compliance with W3C WCAG accessibility standards and adaptive design

Education

B.S. in Computer Science with a minimum of two years’ experience developing enterprise level websites
